Clay Festival To Pay Tribute to Mo Truman
by Terri Lively
The Clay County Golden Delicious Festival will pay tribute to one of Clay County's own musicians during the upcoming 2008 festival event. The 8:00 p.m. Saturday night concert on September 20th will be dedicated to the memory of "Mo" Truman. Carl Steven "Mo" Truman was a well loved singer, song-writer and musician whose family roots were in Widen. Mo had been scheduled to perform during this years hometown concert event but passed away unexpectedly in June. Reflecting on Truman's love of music and Clay County's love for Mo, the idea of having a memorial concert began. While the music of Mo Truman will be sorely missed, the festival Board of Directors wish dedicate the concert to his memory.
The 2008 festival theme is "A Family Tradition". In planning this year's feature concert event, many guests will perform as part of Clay County's extended musical family. The Southern Mix band began many years ago in Clay County and have performed many times at the festival. "Southern Mix" will be the anchor band for the evening concert. In an effort to provide what we hope will be one of the best hometown concerts in the history of the festival, we have invited original members of the Southern Mix band to be a part of the evening concert event including Robert Salisbury, Jerry James, Jim Chandler, Allen Morris and Steve Mullins. Mike Truman, Mo's brother, will bring the family tradition to the festival stage by singing a few of his favorite songs. Additional guest performances will include Christa Ramsey and Farrah Facemire.
Musical CD recordings and other Truman memorabilia will be available during the concert. All proceeds from the sale of those items will benefit the Truman family to assist with the many medical expenses incurred.
